LED Tape - What is Colour Temperature?

You might have seen that LED lights have ratings such as 2700K or 5000K. These values, measured in degrees Kelvin (K), describe the colour of light emitted from an LED source. So, what exactly does this mean? Lower Kelvin values represent warmer tones, with a yellowish glow similar to traditional incandescent bulbs, while higher values indicate cooler, blue-white hues.

Example:
2700K – A warm yellow light ideal for bedrooms and living areas, creating a cozy atmosphere. The light colour typically seen with incandescent light bulbs.

3000K – A slightly crisper light, which resembles halogen bulbs and is commonly seen in hotels and restaurants.

4000K – Commonly known as neutral or natural white. Neutral white offers a balanced brightness, perfect for retail spaces where visibility and comfort are both priorities.

5000K-6500K – This is the brightest level and provides a cool white light, often appearing slightly blue. Suitable for environments that require maximum illumination and clarity, such as industrial spaces, healthcare facilities and photography studios.

It’s important to note that manufacturers may use varying methods for colour calibration. To avoid noticeable differences in lighting, especially with large installations, it is best to source your LED Tape from a single supplier for consistent colour temperature throughout your project.
